Jonathan Tubbs, 20 years old, 147 pounds from Rochester, NY had his pro
debut on April 2, 2004 in which he scored a TKO victory against Long
Island’s Jay Speelman. Tubbs knocked down Speelman with his first
professional punch just three seconds into the first round. Speelman
lasted the round only for Tubbs to finish him off in the second with an
attack of blows, leading to a stoppage at :51.
On May 21, 2004, Boxing At The ROC II, Tubbs (2-0) defeated New York
City’s Shawn Blair (0-1) in a four round bout. Tubbs was in tough and
his outstanding boxing skills put Blair down in his own corner with an
assault of power shots.
Tubbs was one of the most accomplished amateur boxers in Rochester
history and ranked No. 3 nationally. He compiled an amateur record of
184 wins and 38 losses. His victories include gold metals in the Junior
Silver Gloves and the Junior Olympics. He finished 1st at the 1993 Ohio
State Fair, 2002 Empire State Games, 1993 Regional Silver Gloves and the
2002-2003 Niagara USA Men’s Championship Tournament. Tubbs was also a
quarter finalists at the 2002 Under 19 Championships.
Jonathan a 2003 graduate of East High School has been trained by Ron
Resnick at the Montgomery Boxing Club in Rochester, NY for the past 12
years. Tubbs , who states, “I’m a good outside fighter and I like to
“bang” inside with nice moves and a lot of speed and power,” plans on
being world champion and bringing the Title to Rochester, NY.
