Ron Resnick made his promotional debut, as did four
young fighters Friday night in Rochester, NY.
Winning their debuts were: Patana Oyphanith from
Rochester by way of Laos, who scored a first round TKO over Keith
Nesbitt from NYC who was also debuting.
Esteban Cordova from Jamestown, NY recorded a TKO in
the 3 rd over Ricky Spencer from NYC.
Rodney Jones from Rochester won by unanimous decision
over Luis Lopez from NYC.
The most impressive fighter of the night was
welterweight Jonathan Tubbs of Rochester he looked solid in his debut by
scoring a 2 nd round TKO over Jay Speelman. Tubbs was sharp from the get
go and Speelman's corner threw in the towel 51 seconds into round 2.
Alex Cruz won his first career bout by stopping
Terrance Thomas from NYC 59 seconds into round three. Cruz was down at
the end of round one and barely made it back to his corner. Thomas, also
fighting pro for the first time, tired badly in the 2nd and Cruz was
able to come back and rock Thomas in the round. Cruz continued battering
Thomas in the 3rd and after a flurry of unanswered punches the referee
Charlie Fitch stopped the contest.
Jr. welterweight Kenny Abril from Rochester. Abril
improved to 2-0-1 with the second knockout of his young career. The
southpaw Abril peppered a game Pabol Tejada from NYC with solid straight
lefts through 5 rounds. Between the 5th and 6th rounds as the doctor was
checking Tejada's bloodied nose, his corner decided he had enough and
waved off the fight.
The nightcap had Dan Lucas from Rochester retiring in
his corner after the first round. Lucas hurt his elbow during the first
round and was in pain as he sat on his stool. Ruben Bracero from the
Bronx, NY improved to 2-0 with the win.
